Storms are inevitable and they can cause a lot of havoc on our electronics if you aren’t careful. Believe it or not they can do some significant damage to your appliances as well. There are some things you can do if you know there is a severe storm coming through that might cause electrical problems.

Unplug appliances that have an electrical cord when they aren’t in use. If there is a significant lightning storm coming through, you should consider unplugging all appliances even if they are a constant use appliance (such as your refrigerator).

If you lose power, gas stovetops can still be used with a match or lighter as long as you’re careful.

Do not open your refrigerator or freezer any more than absolutely necessary since any cold air that escapes cannot be regenerated until the power comes back on.

If the power is out for an extended period of time, Try to save your most perishable items such as milk and meats by filling coolers with ice and placing those items in them.

Clothes smells are pretty common but when washing them doesn’t remove the smell, it can really stink. Workout clothes especially can be tricky to remove smells from so here are a few tricks that could help you out.

Step 1 Place the stinky clothes in the washing machine and turn it on to fill up with warm water.

Step 2 Add 2 cups of white vinegar into the tub of the washing machine.

Step 3 Run the washer for 5 to 10 minutes before turning it off. Step 4 Allow the clothes to soak in the water for at least 4 hours.

Step 5 Turn the machine back on and add a bleach free detergent.

Step 6 Take the clothing out of the washing machine right after the cycle is finished.

Step 7 If you can, hang your clothes outside for additional odour removal.

Keep in mind this method should only be used on washable clothing. Wool and silk garments need to be cleaned per the instructions. If additional cleaning is required, contact the manufacturer for further instructions.
