The power of the microwave ovens was developed due to an accidental discovery! Dr. Percy Spencer was a radar tube expert and discovered one day that his candy bar had melted in his pocket while working on magnetrons. General Electric is no slouch in producing quality products but they finally gave in to the story the numbers tell. Basically, the profit margin was just so small that they decided it wasn’t worth it for them to remain in that industry. General Electric has always been all over the board with what products they produce so it isn’t a huge thing for them to get out of a product.

What they discovered is that despite how much effort goes into the appliance industry, they were only making 5% of their total revenue from that industry and their profit margins were 3.9%.

Their goal is to make things that not many people in the world can but everyone needs. Appliances really aren’t in that genre. They are looking to concentrate their...

DIY projects are great and can even be fun if you have some skill but there are certain things that truly need to be left up to the professionals no matter how skilled you are. The main one that comes to mind is electrical work. Unless you are a licensed electrician, it is an absolutely terrible idea to be doing electrical work on anything in your home. Even if you were skilled enough to rewire something, if anything went wrong your insurance won’t cover damages.

Appliances are engineered to be able to be worked on but it takes a great deal of training and diagnosis to properly repair an appliance. Small repairs are fine to do on your own but anything more than regular maintenance projects should be left up to the professionals. We have heard of more horror stories of dangerous outcomes of DIY appliance repairs than we’d like to admit. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have a question about a problem you’re having with your appliance.
