We're all thrilled that warmer weather is finally on its way. There are a lot of things we love to do in the warmer weather but cleaning probably isn't among them.Unfortunately, appliances do need to be cleaned to run effectively and they work harder the warmer the weather gets. Refrigerators and freezers use a condenser that basically removes heat from the air in the appliance. In order for this to work effectively and efficiently, all parts of this need to remain clean and unobstructed. Over time the unit can become clogged with animal hair and dust making it harder for it to dissipate the heat it pulls from the appliance. This makes the unit work harder making it less efficient and more prone to failure due to the higher temperatures the unit will reach.

Take a look at your owner’s manual to find the recommended cleaning method for your particular appliance. Please note that this is considered routine maintenance so it is not covered under manufacturer’s warranty. If you want to make sure the...

Appliances are pretty much all run by computers at this point so it's no surprise that they are starting to take on connectivity characteristics of full blown computers. Now that bluetooth and wifi are commonplace it is very easy to sync an appliances up with a home network and have it accessible through our smartphones. It is always exciting seeing the latest inventions that manufacturers come up with and the last couple years it has been all about the smartest appliance functions.

It takes some pretty smart engineers to design functions that even the most feature hungry consumers will be impressed with and they haven't failed to impress. Everything from grocery inventory in your refrigerator to cooking monitoring in your oven capable of making recommendations based on live recipe searches, the latest appliances have it all.

The general use of appliances is pretty straightforward so unless there's a random object in an appliance that you're wondering about, odds are you didn't go through your owner's manual when you got any new appliances. The best piece of advice we can give you is... keep your owners manual! Put it in a safe place that you'll remember because when a light goes off that makes no sense to you, it will save you a lot of time if you still have that manual to pull out.

in fact if you purchase and install an appliance yourself, there may be several things in that box that could be important. Sometimes there’s warranty information in there that could potentially save you a headache down the line.

There may come a time that something isn’t working right or, if you’re truly unfortunate, completely fails. The first step after trying everything you can think of should be to consult your owner’s manual. They generally have several troubleshooting steps that could save you a phone call or trip. With inexpensive...

Some people think they are highly capable, some actually are. Our technicians are highly trained before they go out into the field for a reason. It is necessary to have a lot of knowledge and safety experience to work on appliances. Then there are the people that try to do everything themselves. Some appliance work is certainly easy enough for someone untrained to take on. For example, if your light comes on in your refrigerator to replace the water filter, most anyone can get this taken care of on their own. First off, find your owner’s manual. Success? Secondly, locate the water filter. If you can do both of these steps, give us a call with the part number (located in that manual you didn’t lose). There are a few other tasks as easy as this that we suggest to the “DIY” crowd. But if your refrigerator has stopped keeping your food cold or sprung a leak, we would advise that you NOT try to redo the plumbing on your refrigerator or try to fix the refrigeration! Either of these is far better left up to a highly...

Appliances have been around for a long time and many manufacturers have come and gone. A NASA engineer decided he wanted a more thorough look at the food he was cooking so he developed a thermal imaging prototype for a microwave that gives a visual of the thermal temperatures of the food throughout that looks like something straight out of a movie. Take a look:

It's always intriguing to see what the latest inventions are for high end appliances and major manufacturers never fail to impress. The latest release for refrigerators is a design that allows you to select how MUCH you want to open your refrigerator door. Instead of a single handle, the system splits the handle up into two sections. You can either open the whole door or use the other part of the handle to open only a panel and leave the inside of the door in place. This allows only access to the items in the storage compartments on the door. This makes for a very easy open panel to get to drinks and condiments or anything else you store in the door.
